Max Perkins was Hemingway's and Fitzgerald's editor at Scribners. Hemingway met him in about 1926 and they were close friends until Perkins died some 25 years or so later.

If you want to read a great book on Perkins find Scott Berg's Editor To Genius.  It covers Perkins' career at Scribners and his relationships with Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Thomas Wolfe...the guy was not only an editor to genius buy a genuis in his own right.

Sorry 'bout the absence.

See missing "The Letters Of Maxwell Perkins," which includes letters to not only EH, but also F.Scott, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Thomas Wolfe, and discussions amongst them all about each other, like I think it was EH's assessment of James Jones' talent, and Dreiser, etc.

Think it was "Editor to Author," or "Editor of Genius" or something like that before the "letters" part. An extremely inspiring read, sent me by a great friend when I needed it.

If anyone doesn't know the book I'm talking about, or can't find it, let me know and next chance I'll grab it out of my bookshelf and look at the title.
