For an idea of the impact of war on civilians, particularly children, this is a must read by a first-time novelist.

Mellow-dramatic in places, it nevertheless describes accurately and with emotive language - even some of it foreign - the way homes, towns, lives, and childhood is destroyed by the objectives of those with power and weapons.

It also demonstrates how naturally good, kind, generous and quiet children can learn to be sociopaths, with the right training.

I wish I'd written it.

Best,
hijo
