I liked it well enough but thought the beginning dragged abit.  Also, being a Key West fan I wish they would have touched more upon his years there.  Wrestling with Life is much better but this was enjoyable.

Same basic stuff from every other documentary on Hemingway.  Hotchner couldn't even get the quote right about Faulkner's use of big words.

Kind of a tired, rehashed feel to the whole thing.

I usually can't get enough of ' things Hemingway ' but Big Papi won out over Papa and I had to watch Ortiz hit his 42nd homer to power the Red Sox to anouther victory!

Best

Paul

Liked the interviews - especially with Patrick, who in my opinion looks much more like pictures of his younger days now than in the past few years.

Didn't like the ending - kind of seemed speeded up to fit in the time slot. Was watching from 9 p.m. EDT to 10 p.m. and finding it interesting, but wondering how they were going to get from Spain to Ketchum and in the end was a bit disappointed with the speed.

I think it could have used another half-hour at least to take some time with the next 20+ years (1940-61), but then again, I love documentaries like this so what do I know?

I found the discussion of him as an artist vs "he-man" very, very interesting, and the fact his life-style and experiences that fueled his work took its toll on him emotionally. Somewhat similar to the Reynold's "final years" book.

Best,
hijo

I enjoyed it for the most part. It was a bit slow at times I almost knodded off once or twice.  I really enjoyed all of the old photos that were shown. I would want to watch it again in order to get a better grasp of all the fine points.

I also love documentaries and can always find something that I like, but I felt that this one on E.H. was like watching reruns.  Nothing new and I did not like the ending either.  I would be interested in watching the one that American Masters did on F. Scott Fitzgerald also.  If it should be on again, please let us know.

Best,

docnme

I tried taping it last night but it started at the point where it was talking about the Pilar and German U boats.

Is that the beginning?
