Hello. - I just finished "For Whom The Bell Tolls" for my ISU. I have been having alot of trouble figuring out a thesis for it though. There are many things I would like to write about, but I have to make sure it is "debatable" and yet, some how literary.

At first I had a thesis about how Hemingway potrays himself (or parts of himself) in Robert Jordan. Teacher didn't think that was controversial enough though. So - Here is my new plan....

Im trying to say that Robert Jordan was the man that Heminway wanted to be - Strong (Physical and Emotional), Able to love, Atractive, Loyal to friends, Fighting for something he beileves in (At least in the end), Able to turn away from the weakness of suicide...but couldn't be.

You guys are the experts. What do you think? I would love some feedback...Kinda soon though. Thanks so much!

Kim,

Try looking at For Whom The Bell Tolls from the "code hero" viewpoint.  Robert Jordan is the epitome of the "Hemingway Code Hero" though he's not the first one nor the last to be cast in that role.

Was Hemingway the Code Hero?  Or, did he want to be the Code Hero?

Let us know what you decide.

Good luck
