Since I am a "newbie" I would like to ask the following questions. I am sure many of the forum have similarity's of EH whether it be writing, lifestyle, etc but are there members who resemble EH? I am aware that KWest has had a look-a-like contest for over 20 years, which looks like a great deal of fun. Are there any members who have participated or been to KWest during Hemingway days?

I was there last year and it is a lot of fun. There's a Meet the Papas cocktail party, a get-together at the Hemingway House, a Running with the (cardboard) bulls, and the look-a-like contest at Sloppy Joes.

This never works but try going here and clicking on "View as Slideshow"

Bob Orlan is a member here and has participated in the lookalike contest.

Tom Sanders, another member, looks quite a bit like Papa.

Yes -Bob does look like Papa - he played hi in those Thomasville commercials.

I could be Hemingway's twin brother.  Maybe not but noone knows what I look like so...I look exactly like him but shorter.

I met up with Bob at Kelly's on the Sunday or Monday before all of the activities got started. I had told him I would be there wearing my red KW cap. Then my luggage got delayed, so he didn't see me but he was unmistakable. We talked for a while and met off and on throughout the week. It really is funny to walk around Key West this week seeing all the Papa Doubles.

The other look-a-like I met was Denis - the guy who is in the Michael Palin video. He is, in person, just like he is in the video, very effervescent, and keeps coming back each year for another try. Bob Slack, winner in '03 was staying at the same hotel as I. We started talking one morning and I offered to help and so got to go to most of the activites (and get free drinks), and ended up joining the Hemingway Look-a-Like Society.

Guys,

Thanks for the postings I am looking forward to KWest in July, I'm going to give it a shot, it looks like a lot of FUN! Yesterday I received a copy of "Reflection of Papa" released last year covering previous winners of the contest. I found it on www.alibris.com a great reseller of all types of books as in Hemingway (not a problem in over 2yrs of use, they pay me for spreading the word, sure they do) Good capsule of the contest winners etc.

I will be going to the Hemingway home and Museum soon, Oak Park is really close to home, has anyone been there or have thoughts on that?

I was at the Hem Fest in Oak Park years ago and it was a blast.  They had a running of the bulls with wheel barrows with paper mache bull heads attached.  There was alot going on but I havent heard much lately except that Oak Park is trying to cash in heavily on Papa.  The houses were neat...you could only go in one.  But that was years ago so don't quote me on that.  You live in Illinois?  I did...South Side Chicago.
