Just Dave is absolutely right. I have a video of the Old man and the Sea and watched it again. Actually I fast forwarded to the end and watched the final scene. I watched it maybe 50 times. Ernie was sitting at a table with three other men. He was in the middle with the men on each side of him. They were way in back of the scene and you would miss it unless you were told to be looking for him. It’s not a very clear shot but if you focus on the head shape and cap: it’s Ernie.
More importantly, there are two excellent scenes with Mary Hemingway. And don’t try to tell me it’s not Mary. There is a table of 3-4 women (I think it’s 3 and a man is with them). The first scene is Mary walking by on her way to the table. – right there full frame and if you “pause” it you can see Mary in the foreground and Ernie in the background. The second scene is a profile shot of Mary’s head as she sits at the table and talks to the lady across from her.
I’ve watched Old Man and the Sea a number of times and never saw this. Movies back then did not have the trailers the way they do today so they were not listed in the cast.
Thanx Dave for the interesting lead.
